Obsession

Personal Obesssions;

Octopi: I can't even remember when this obessesion started. I've always loved the water and ther ocean, so this obsession came naturally. I own many octopus products and am always collecting more.

Man v. Nature: I am continually intrigued by the interplay of  man and nature.  I tend to find objects of nature overtaking t man more interesting than the alternate. I'm always cleaning parks and sidewalks.

Outdoors/Plants/Gardening: I have always been interested in gardening. This probably started with my grandmother and continues today. I love being outside and watching something grow; it is magical.

Video Games: I love to play videogames. My brother was too cool for me as a teenager ( i was in elementary school) and this is all he would do with me as a child. It's something we still enjoy as we've gotten older and friendlier.

Cultural Obsessions;

Beauty: This ones obvious. We are constantly bombarded with social appearance standards. A lot of people spend all their money to obtain this goal.

Money: Money and beauty seem to tie together. It is an evitable need but also a pain in the ass.

College Education: In American society, the need for a college education is undeniable. As an artist, I seem to struggle with the idea that I HAVE to go to school for what I love. Is it really a necessity?

Global Warming: I always find this topic interesting. It is impossible to deny climate change and the human races role in that, but we really have no idea what is/will happen(ing).

"The holy grail is to spend less time making the picture than it takes people to look at it."

I continually find something that expends my ideas of a certain medium. I think the most important thing about being an artist is exposing yourself to as much art as you possibly can.

I recently visited the Denver Art Museum as it was part of my Art History class ( blehck! boring boring boring!). I've been waiting to see the Embrace! exhibit for a couple months now and I promise you, if you have a chance to attend this before it ends, it WILL NOT be a waste. The artists there are wonderful and almost inconceivable.

By far my favorite was Zhong Biao. He's part of the Chinese art scene you cannot miss. He installed an Acrylic piece called Mirage.

'Winter is nature's way of saying, "Up yours."'

The only upside of winter? No sunshine to distract me from being a productive artist.

Some things I made for my family for Christmas;

Painted this with leftover paint I had sitting around. I really need to get in the habit of scraping out tubes of paint once they become...unsqueezable? I got so much paint out of tubes I thought were empty.

Disconnected elephant. Played with some new red pigments for this one. Really good color payback. Note to self; Don't mix it with skin tones. No bueno. :[
